Black Pepper

Historically, Brazil is top five largest black pepper producers in the world and top three largest exporters. Production in 2019, according to the IBGE survey, reached a record 109,400 tons. Of this total, 62,600 tons were cultivated in Espírito Santo lands, which meant an increase of 3.4% compared to the previous year.

It is a typical hot and humid climate crop, which grows well at altitudes of up to 500 meters, temperatures between 23ºC and 38ºC and relative humidity between 70% and 88%. The plant has adapted well to Brazilian territory and, especially, to areas with little rainfall in Espírito Santo, which have favorable climate and soil conditions that help in the expansion and consolidation of black pepper cultivation in the state.
